Ramping Up….

Two weeks today, I leave for Paris to begin my Camino France´s. I’ve started to do some serious walking. The temperatures have cooled a bit – 21C, so I managed a 20kms walk with a full backpack – 10lbs. I walked 10kms to the Brickworks and back, had lunch and then repeated the walk. I didn’t have to slacken my pace at all towards the end, but I could feel my hips for the last 2 or 3kms. I hobbled to the grocery store.

I’m still planning to have my pack forwarded for the first few days, but it is expensive and with an exchange rate of 1.75 Canadian dollars to 1 euro, I think I have to carry my pack on the shorter easier walks – if there are any.

I’m also ignoring the reports of the forest fires across northern Spain. I am hoping that they will be contained before I get to them. It won’t be pretty walking through a charred forest, but it will be an experience and since I’ve come to the Camino rather late in life, I don’t have the luxury of putting off my walk for another year.

The picture? Mud Creek at The Brickworks in Summer. My reward after 5kms.
