Sides and asides…..2

Hanging in there.

Today I went to buy some fruit for emergency rations as I hope to spend the next few days right on the path doing around 12kms per day. Mapy gave me directions to a supermarket about half a kilometre away. It gave me a chance to walk around a bit and discover a little more of Burgos.

Even though the store was small it had a huge range of products. I bought two apples and a clementine for less than 1euro. It reminded me of a stall on the path where I bought 1 banana and an apple for 3 euros. It’s an interesting comparison.

At my lunch of “ensalada mixta” while looking at the cathedral. I thought in a weak moment that I could live here. I then remembered the author I had met a few days ago who lives right on the Camino near Melide; walks the path regularly from Pamploma to Santiago to gather material for her novels and has never considered returning to the US. Some people live a charmed life.

Tonight will be a quiet night. I have hopefully found a better restaurant for dinner. It is in the square beside the cathedral. They light the cathedral at night. I’m sure it will be lovely.

My backpack has arrived and I’m in heaven!! Buen Camino
