Tardajos

An electrifying moment

Today was a lovely day. I walked 13kms from Burgos to the little town of Tardajos. The hostel was a bit off the path and at the start of the town so I had some backtracking to do and then walk another kilometre along a side road, but it was worth it. The hostel is really part Albergue and part upscale hotel. It was an old mill at one time that has been converted into a lovely restaurant with rooms above.

I reserved on booking.com and had to pay a bit more, but I got a room to myself with an ensuite. I had a 3 course lunch with wine for 15 euros.

The best part though was meeting Cynthia from Brantford ON. She is actually connected to the cousin of a lovely person I met on the Portuguese Camino. Anyway Cynthia suggested I use What’s App to book ahead and it’s been amazing. I now have beds booked about 12-13kms apart and I am very happy. No more buses or taxis for the moment.

The other pilgrim here is another 81 year old woman now living in Australia. She’s even crazier than I am. She sends her backpack ahead without a booking, retrieves it and then goes to the municipal Albergue. If they are full she tries to squeeze a booking from another place in town. I’m in shock.

It’s a short post today while I wait for my laundry to dry before the sun goes down. Buen Camino
