Today was another wonderful day. I walked about 10kms in very sunny not too hot weather with Cynthia from Brantford. It was great to have someone to walk at my speed and to chat with easily in English.
The meseta is really spectacular. There was a point on the walk where there were only two colours in our world – blue and yellow.
I’m back in an Albergue tonight but there are only four of us in one room. It’s not too crowded which is nice.
Cynthia and I will go to the pilgrim mass at 6:00 and have dinner in the Albergue afterwards. Even with WhatsApp I’m still having trouble re-arranging my accommodation. Fortunately I am booked for tomorrow night and tomorrow during the day I will walk about 10-12kms. This is an easier walk than the mountains.
I’ll keep you posted.
Just a quick update. We were told about 5:30 that there would not be a pilgrim mass because there was no priest. Then those who blindly followed the tourist information and had no “insider” information went to the church and attended a mass that started 30 minutes later. This is Spain. Stuff happens and then it doesn’t happen and then people decide to make it happen because there is enough people to make it happen. If there are enough people.
If this sounds crazy it’s not as crazy as Cynthia and I trying to explain to a walker from Arizona how we knew each other through a mutual friend once removed. She looked very confused. I said don’t worry. Everyone in Canada is related. At that point she sped past us deciding we were mildly insane because of inbreeding. It was a fun day.
