Santibanez de Valdeiglesias

One of the Orbigos

It is probably a little early to write up my day but it’s been awesome. There was a bit of a walk very early in the morning by the busy road. I swear the Spanish never sleep. The cars and trucks were streaming by at 7:30am. Eventually the path left the highway way for the Órbigos – Puenta, Hospital and Villares. These are some of the prettiest towns on the Camino. I had breakfast in Puente de Orbigo. The restaurant was really an Albergue that was serving breakfast. I had the biggest, stickiest croissant I’ve ever had in a lovely dining area that looked onto a garden with the most colourful pheasants I have ever seen. The Camino is dotted with magical places.

My total walking distance according to my phone was 12.5kms. I arrived at my hostel about 11:30 and it opened early for a change. It’s beautiful. I had my ensalada mixta with a glass of wine in the garden in brilliant sunshine.

I got a lower bunk. It was one of those “Marie Antoinette” ones because if you are not careful you could be decapitated.

All the bedrooms open onto a balcony and the toilets open onto the same balcony. So when it’s chilly, you literally “nip” outside to the loo.

I’m having dinner here tonight. Almost everything comes with salad and chips. I’ve had a strange craving for junk food or at least French fries. I must be getting close to home. Not that I eat a lot of junk food at home, but they are a treat once in a while.

I’ll keep you posted. Buen Camino.
