Our accommodation in Palas de Rei could best be described as Bohemian. It was lacking a lot of refinement. Our dinner, cooked by the owner of the Albergue, was Italian and very good. We started with a bowl of penne in a light tomato and meat sauce topped with freshly grated cheese, followed by a bowl of lentil soup and a flan for dessert. I wouldn’t say it was to die for and certainly didn’t make up for the eclectic accommodation but we were having trouble finding a place and it was available.
I left Palas de Rei about 8:00am. Nick and I agreed to walk separately today to give him a chance to walk at a faster pace. My walking companions were a huge group of teenagers. They might have been a whole school or even an entire county. I survived. Nick passed me at one point and after a brief hug sped on. Fortunately after 15kms of walking separately, we met up at the entrance to Melide about noon.
Our room with a private bathroom is lovely. It’s about 45euros and worth it. Nick offered to do laundry while I went out for a light lunch of cream cheese, smoked salmon and avocado on toast. With a glass of wine it was delicious. The sun continues to shine through a cloudless sky over gorgeous farmland, pretty treed paths and ancient stone buildings. More to come later. 😊
