Madrid

Random picture of a garden in Santiago

This morning is our last few hours in Spain. We leave at 1:00pm to fly to Frankfurt, change planes and then fly home.

Our train journey from Santiago was lovely. Again lots of sunshine as the scenery flew by at 300mph sometimes. One of the forums on FB suggested a hotel right across the street from Chamartin train station. It was busy at breakfast which was free, but otherwise just fine.

We’ll take a cab to the airport. There is a shuttle and someone said the Metro is free, but Chamartin is under construction and chaotic. I’ll save my heart attack for another time.

I was worried that staying out of the centre of Madrid would be a downer but Nick is such a magical creature that he found out that he could walk to the Real Madrid football stadium in less than half an hour. So he spent what was left of the afternoon there. Had a tour ate a Nicky sized lunch and got back about 6:00.

I had a substantial snack of hummus and pita for lunch at the hotel and collapsed about 7:00. Nick went out. When he wasn’t home by 12:00 I started to panic imagining him mugged in a gutter somewhere. He got in at 1:00 after popping into a few bars and shooting some pool with several inebriated Spaniards. Whew!

Somehow I can’t imagine myself doing that. Not even at 33. Some people live a charmed life.

Flying home today.
