Getting There

I can’t believe that it’s been almost six months since I last posted. The snow came in mid January and I couldn’t walk in the ravines with the ice. I walk a lot, but my balance isn’t very good, so anything slippery underfoot is dangerous. I was able to do a maintenance walk of 9kms through the cemetery, which is plowed and that kept up my strength until the ice melted. Since then I have been walking 15-18kms with the Toronto Community of Pilgrims, going to coffee meetings with the Canadian Company of Pilgrims – Toronto chapter and walking my 10kms through Mud Creek when time permits.

Preparation for my walk in September is always in progress. I have ordered several waist packs from various sources online to accommodate essentials and water. So far nothing has worked. In fact I’m back to positioning my water bottle down from my left shoulder and securing it with velcro rather than a bungie cord, which I did on my Portuguese Camino. I may also end up using my waist pack from that trip, which kept unclasping and had to be secured with safety pins because it’s the right size and except for the extra step of unpinning it, it works!!

I’m walking now with the backpack I will take with me and have filled it up with some gear to the weight of 5lbs – just 5lbs more to go. I’ve updated my website with a few of the books I have read over the Winter, found my foldable keyboard and will start writing posts with it directly to my phone for more practice with the WordPress App. I have booked my accommodation in Paris, St Jean Pied de Port, Orisson and Zubiri. I’ve paid for medical insurance and surprisingly had my Visa limit extended when I went to the bank for other reasons. Hopefully, I won’t have to pay large sums up front and wait to be reimbursed later. However, if this does happen, I now have more coverage.

That’s it for the moment. I’ll try to post more often now that I have cleaned the cobwebs off the site. Everything it seems is a journey. Buen Camino.
