Hontanas

Today was another easy day. I left the hostel in the dark about 7:30am. I used my headlamp and I bundled up because the forecast was for rain. Fortunately the rain held off, the skies cleared and it turned out to be a lovely day even if a bit chilly at 15C.

I just walked 10kms to Hontanas today. The road was fairly flat and my accommodation was the first breakfast stop along the way. I have one more short walk tomorrow and then a few longer ones to make up for all the rest days and short walk days.

I am now booked ahead for a week. I’m using a combination of WhatsApp and Wise Pilgrim. This helps me skirt around booking.com which has been a real pain.

I met up with a whole group of people that were at Orisson when I started so I’m not too far behind. Some have shed their packs and others have taken the odd bus or taxi when they were struggling.

I walked on my own today. Cynthia was walking about 5kms to a monastery/hostel nearby. I think if I can walk the slightly longer days – 17/18kms, I’ll be on track for finishing by October 22/23 to get back to Porto for my flight home October 25.

It’s been an amazing adventure so far. I know there will be some hard climbing ahead, but I’m taking it one day at a time. The Camino has got me this far and I will reach the halfway mark before the end of September. I’m still a little stunned at the thought.
