Itero de La Vega

Today was an easy 12kms in spite of having to climb over the mountain ahead. Dinner last night was fine. I sat with the three women from the US who were in my room. They were friendly even if one made several FaceTime calls in the room. The etiquette is to make calls in common areas so as not to disturb the others in your room. Oh well.

I went to bed early. I think that struggling with the cold and waiting for my clothes to dry took a lot of my energy. Plus the albergue could use a facelift. Although we all had single beds, no bunks, the halls, showers and toilets were a little makeshift. Breakfast was OK too. Just not a lot of people to talk to.

It was a little warmer in the morning today 6C. Still I decided to wear socks on my hands to warm them up. I called them smitts. I guess they could also have been called mocks. Whatever….they did keep my hands from freezing.

The climb up and over the Alto De Mostelares was fine. The descent was steep and a little dangerous in that those who were biking just screamed down the “hill” taking your breath with them.

There was a great restaurant as you entered the town. I had coffee and some tomato, cheese and lettuce on a croissant before I found my Albergue, which again is OK. I had hoped to find someplace that did salads for lunch but everything was just more sandwiches at the two restaurants and one market in town.

Tomorrow I have a slightly longer walk into Fromista – 18kms. It’s still quite cool so heat shouldn’t be a factor. I’ll let you know how it goes.
