Today I am very close to Santiago. Cynthia should arrive tomorrow so there will be someone else to try to figure out the eating times at restaurants. I went out about 5:00 as my phone said that some restaurants were open.
No it’s all a conspiracy to starve foreign nationals. I’ll go out again about 7:00 and see what I can find.
The bus trip to Santiago was uneventful except that it was a full bus. One of the Albergue staff called for the cab about 7:00. It arrived shortly after. I was at the bus station at 7:25 and had an hour wait.
I always build in time for the unexpected. The taxi might not come and it would then have to be called again. It could take longer to arrive. There could be an argument as to whose taxi it was. The list goes on.
In fact when I arrived in Santiago I decided to take a taxi to the hostel, as my cold is still lingering. Well there were two of us at the taxi stand and yes he/she was there before me. The long flaming red hair and leopard tights suggested female, but the way the hand kept resting on the cabbie’s thigh suggested otherwise.
Yes it turned out to be a shared ride because I was in the taxi and my co-rider was off having a smoke when the argument about whose cab it was took off.
As we were zipping along the expressway I began to wonder how wise a decision this was. Where was I going and who was going to pay.
Everything worked out at least for me. I was dropped off first. I hope the cabby survived. Pictures to come.
Slowly on the mend.
