What The Psychic Told The Pilgrim

I have found that some people love this book and others hate it. Personally, I liked it. It’s very funny. The writer is upbeat, outgoing and engaging. The author, Jane Christmas, decided to walk a Camino after her marriage ended. She happened to announce her plans while being interviewed on a public media platform. Immediately fourteen women wanted to accompany her. Somehow she couldn’t say no.

Bouyed with a wry sense of humour, Jane leaves her two teenaged children at home and sets out with fourteen other women, in a somewhat disorganized group, to walk the Camino FranceĀ“s from St. Jean Pied de Port. Her book might have ended in the chaos of this poorly prepared troop, however, her satiric take on it all carries her along, as she sheds her companions here and there to eventually walk alone.

At one point, Jane meets a fortune teller who tells her that three things will happen on her Camino and they do with very interesting results. The author is a Canadian living in Hamilton, ON and working now in public relations, where you probably need a sense of humour.
