San Lazaro

Today I am very close to Santiago. Cynthia should arrive tomorrow so there will be someone else to try to figure out the eating times at restaurants. I went out about 5:00 as my phone said that some restaurants were open. No, it’s all a conspiracy to starve foreign nationals. I’ll go out again about […]

Today is the first sign that the coughing has eased. I may be on the mend. I spent a good deal of time rewriting the lyrics to a popular song from years ago – “wasting away in Ponferradaville,” except that I’m not wasting my time. I’m healing. I’m also managing to eat a bit more.

I do plan to leave here at one point. However it’s rather nice just sitting around with not much to do but eat clementines, visit recommended pastry shops and sample the house salads. I do walk around the town a bit, generally get lost and have to sort things out. The cough persists but it

If you had to be ill anywhere on the Camino this is not a bad place. The Albergue is brand new. There is the Templar Castle and hundreds of restaurants. My cold is improving. The bill from the hospital is a little over 100euros, which I will deal with tomorrow. The Albergue does a great

I still seem to be suffering from this mild virus in spite of feeling a little better yesterday. I was able to walk 7kms to Rabanal but I was too tired to make the 7kms climb to my Albergue. I wasn’t sure how I was actually going to get there either. Well the Camino provided.

El Ganso

This will be a short post today. I walked 13kms over a very flat and easy path. I was hoping I could do it as I seem to have picked up a bug somewhere. After my lovely lunch yesterday, I felt quite feverish and went to bed. Well I slept for 12 hours. I think

Astorga

Yesterday evening was as lovely as the day. I sat with a group of people from Australia and one other Canadian chatting until dinner. The Albergue served several choices. I had the ham slices with melted cheese and chips. My walk had a few climbs but nothing too strenuous. What was difficult was the very
