SCQ

SCQ is the name of the new hostel. It’s much nicer although further from the bus station. The hostel last night had no windows. It was very busy and claustrophobic. This hostel has lovely big windows a large eating and cooking area and fewer people. Tomorrow I will walk 1km into the old town to […]

Return to Santiago

Yesterday Cynthia and I took the bus from Muxia to Santiago. Tracey gave us a lift into town and showed us the church on the rocks, which is very beautiful. We had a seafood lunch. I had clams in a Marinara sauce and Cynthia had giant shrimps. When we got to Santiago, we had a

Muxia 3

Today is our last day at Little Fox House. It’s been a very different experience. I read four books in three days – Like Water For Chocolate, My Camino, a book set in the Scilly isles and another set on an Aleutian island. It’s an amazing place for books. Yesterday’s lunch was cream of celery

Muxia 2

Yesterday was another lovely day. The owner of Little Fox House took us in her car on a ride along the coast from Finisterre to Fisterre, two different towns that are part of a separate Camino in that area overlooking the sea. We also took the scenic route back to our lodgings much of it

Muxia

Many apologies for not posting yesterday. It was a transition day. We took a taxi to the bus station and a bus to Muxia which is a lovely seaside town. We had crab croquettes, padron peppers and chips for lunch. With a glass of white wine each it was lovely. The sea view was dessert!

Santiago

I’ve been eating better since Cynthia and I have been going out for meals together. My cold is getting better by degrees. Today we walked 3kms to the Cathedral, arriving very early. Cynthia got her Compostela and I got a nice certificate for effort. We went to the 10:00am pilgrim mass (in English) in the

San Lazaro

Today I am very close to Santiago. Cynthia should arrive tomorrow so there will be someone else to try to figure out the eating times at restaurants. I went out about 5:00 as my phone said that some restaurants were open. No, it’s all a conspiracy to starve foreign nationals. I’ll go out again about

Ponferrada 5

Today is the first sign that the coughing has eased. I may be on the mend. I spent a good deal of time rewriting the lyrics to a popular song from years ago – “wasting away in Ponferradaville,” except that I’m not wasting my time. I’m healing. I’m also managing to eat a bit more.

Ponferrada 4

I do plan to leave here at one point. However it’s rather nice just sitting around with not much to do but eat clementines, visit recommended pastry shops and sample the house salads. I do walk around the town a bit, generally get lost and have to sort things out. The cough persists but it
